A life lived in faith

The Lord asked,

“Whom shall I send?

And who will go for us?”.

Jean answered,

“Here am I. Send me!”

Jean's story unfolds through the heartfelt narratives shared in conversation with her friends, Susan Gouws and Esme Senekal.

This book chronicles her remarkable journey of faith, transitioning from her role as the Head of Trauma and ICU, living as a Buddhist and ultimately embracing God's calling to become priest.

The story follows Jean's journey as she faced the challenges of leading a self-supporting ministry dedicated to reaching out to the rejected and abandoned. Through her unwavering commitment, she emerged as a powerful catalyst for change, profoundly impacting the lives of countless individuals around her.

Jean's Wild Spirit now in stock

Revd Jean Underwood worked as a trained Trauma and ICU specialist, when she received the Holy Spirit. She became an ordained priest and, in obedience to God’s calling, started her missionary work.

In the 1990s, during the AIDS pandemic and South Africa’s transition, Jean brought her experience and ICU techniques to the healing of dying babies; she brought hope to the broken, the lonely, and the desperate.

Jean sought to bring women and children in crisis to a haven of love and light. Joining her from all over the world, volunteers supported Jean in her mission and found their lives immeasurably enriched. Their voices and testimonies are in the pages of this story.

As Jean walked towards suffering, pouring the healing waters of the Holy Spirit she experienced her own challenges and betrayals. Through-out all, she followed the promptings of the Holy Spirit… and all shall be well.

"God surprised us with a special gift when He retired Revd Jean into our care. This book, Jean’s response to God’s soft voice calling her to a deep-spiritual ministry of loving and caring for those deemed to be unlovable, will not leave you untouched."

“I am so pleased that Jean’s story is being documented because she is a very exceptional person, chosen by God almighty as His special vessel of honour to use at a very critical time in the history of South Africa, the Church and the continent of Africa. I have always thanked God for the privilege of being allowed to meet and share my journey with such a special servant of God."
